Overview

Codex is OpenAI's coding-agent product. Its official product page ↗ describes coding work and access across development environments.[1] Do not interpret the product name as one fixed model or an identical permission set for every account. Check present availability and connected repositories and tools in current official guidance and the actual account.

Products, models and work environments

GPT names a model family, Agentic Coding describes a development approach, and Codex identifies a product context. Outcomes depend on the repository version, write access, packages and network available to the task. A proposed fix and an actual changed file are different evidence.

Separate the 2025 launch from present conditions

The May 2025 introduction ↗ describes isolated coding tasks and checking results; it now warns that the launch account is outdated.[2] Its model names, access paths and network setup do not define every present environment. Follow the current product page ↗ and its documentation for current features.[1]

Fictional case: specify a bug-fix request

ORBiS Tree's fictional request asks for a date filter to include a missing final day in a given repository version, followed by relevant checks. Assess the reproduction input, expected date range, patch and actual test output. An environment that could not be checked remains unverified.
To resume work, retain repository, branch, baseline version, changed files and remaining failures. Prior conversation does not establish that current files are intact. Continue to Data Provenance for connecting versions and outputs.

Completion criteria for saving, checking and deployment

A generated patch, passed checks and a production change require different evidence. If deployment is requested, repository changes alone do not complete it. Distinguish permission from successful execution. AI Agent Oversight and Computer Use explain why acknowledged tool actions and user-visible results can differ.

Record the comparison scope

ORBiS Tree proposes holding issue sets, repository baseline, allowed tools, time and retries constant, then recording correct fixes, regressions, incomplete work and total time. Product examples do not guarantee a personal workload's results. This article gives neither pricing nor a current model ranking.
